"Characterizing the ISM of High-z Galaxies with ALMA, the JVLA and JWST " (pdf)

Galaxies and their ISM have evolved significantly from the early Universe until today. Gas densities, metallicities, and the radiation fields permeating the ISM, have all changed. Understanding these changes and the factors driving the changes is vital to knowing how our own galaxy came to be. Both ALMA and JWST can provide important and complementary constraints on the ISM in high-z galaxies, giving us a glimpse into the changes occuring from early epochs to the present day. In this talk I will discuss methods to probe ISM conditions of high-z galaxies by combining far-IR Fine structure line observations, as observed with ALMA, with JVLA radio continuum observations. To demonstrate the potential of the method I will share initial results of the ZINGRS (The ZEUS 1 & 2 INvestigated Galaxy Reference Sample) Radio Survey. Lastly, I will detail the complementary observations in the rest frame optical and near-IR accessible with JWST that, when combined with far-IR & radio method, will provide a detailed picture of the ISM across cosmic time.
